Marmalade to me always will be French. It was at a family vacation to Paris that I was treated to this heavenly delicious thing. The b&b we stayed at served orange and chocolate marmalade cozily tucked in warm buttery croissants- one bite and the warm guey liquid ozes out- humm delicious. My parents sitting beside me, my sisters were there- we had a lovely time that I remember bits and pieces of. And one piece of this memory puzzle is related to marmalade. I have tried eating this later when I grew up, made it myself but somehow I never could recreate the magic. Marmalade is a delusion- a remant mirage I would say- of the perfect vacation I had as a child. I do not eat it any more- I want it to mean something special to me- for always!

hey guys! I’ve been writing a tad, mostly revising stuff from last semester, but trying to keep the juices flowing. I’m coming up on Friday through Saturday midday, and if anyone would like to meet up for a writing session I’d be so down! let me know via blog, email, or facebook. Hello all! I will sort of be around this summer… I’m going to be in Burlington from June 22 – July 27, so I would love to make a few trips down to Midd for some workshops. Also, if I can’t make certain workshops I would love to join electronically! Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!

It may be a cop-out because Barbara lent it to me, but I’m currently reading “The View from the Seventh Layer” by Kevin Brockmeier, and it’s utterly amazing. You should all go out and buy it right now, and read the story “The Human Soul as a Rube Goldberg Device,” which may be the best story ever. A warning though, you have to read through ALL of it, no exceptions, and if you follow the rules, when you get to the end you’ll understand.

I am off to watch a movie right now, but I will add to the list later.

There are a few poems that I love and think everyone should read as an essential brilliance of poetic history, and even though they are not new, and are fairly canonical, if you haven’t read them, you should. Emily Dickinson’s “tell the truth but tell it slant” for the power of words to communicate interiority and power, Yeats’ both “Byzantium” and “Sailing to Byzantium” for beautiful narrative language, and Dylan Thomas’ “Do not go gentle into that good night” for fierce evocation of emotion through language.
